Club: Airdrie Golf Club

The Airdrie Golf Club is a superb, wooded parkland course just north of Airdrie on the Glenmavis road. It is a 6, 004-yard par 69 course with more than its fair share of surprises, so those caught napping among the great views will pay the price. Natural hazards and tight fairways are a common feature and, on occasion, your approach to the putting surface is made tougher as some greens are well protected. Although not overly long, it's a joy to play no matter the time of year

This tree lined course is situated in the heart of Lanarkshire, overlooking Strathclyde Park. The course was opened in 1905 and the first competition took place the same year.

The first 5 holes are extremely demanding, providing one of the most difficult starts in golf. This stretch is followed by the gentler "birdie alley" 6 and 7 where lost shots can be recovered.

The signature hole is the par 3 17th which involves a tricky tee shot over out of bounds, from an elevated tee

There aren't too many golf course in Scotland, never mind the world, that lay claim to their course record being held by a former Ryder Cup player and Open Champion. Biggar, though, is not like any other golf course.

Paul Lawrie's professional course record of 63 is expected to stand for some time. The course is fairly flat, although it is very scenic in parts as it basks in rolling Borders countryside, a great asset for any golf course to have.

The short ninth, with water to the left and out of bounds on the right, is the signature hole and has ruined many a promising scorecard.

Carnwath Golf Club was founded in 1907 on a piece of land called Gallow Hill, situated to the west of the village of Carnwath. The 9 hole course was laid out by Mr W, Auchterlonie of St Andrew's and opened by Lady Lockhart, the wife of Sir Simon M Lockhart, Honorary President of the club and laird of the estates, on 29th June 1907.

The course was extended to 18 holes in May 1922 and by 1936 was visited by more than 3000 golfers annually. With the acquisition of a further 20 acres south of the course, it's layout was again redesigned by G M Clark, club champion, and the new layout opened in July 1963.

The club crest bears a motif of Carnwath Motte, a defensive ditch built in the 12th century, still a visible feature of the course, located behind the first green

The rural setting of the Golf Club, is easily accessible from both Glasgow and Edinburgh, making it a popular venue for visitors. Renowned for their local hospitality the members and the residents of the town will make your visit both, pleasant and enjoyable

The tree-lined, flat parkland course, designed by James Braid, was formed in 1925 on the acquisition of part of the grounds of Garnkirk Estate, along with the 18th century Mansion House.

The course is relatively flat parkland and both professionals and top-class amateurs find it a fair test of their ability, particularly on some of the longer Par 4's. Most holes are tree-lined with oak, birch and pine. The Garnkirk Burn also winds its way through the middle part of the course, making the 6th and 7th holes testing depending on which way the wind is blowing. On a sunny day there are magnificent views of the Campsie Hills, with Ben Lomond in the background.

Established in 1894 and designed by Willie Fernie, Drumpellier is one of Glasgow's most popular courses. It is an undulating parkland course that has seen its fair share of amateur and professional golfers plot their way round in search of something special.

Here, the bigger hitters can try to close their round in style by reaching the green from the tee. Mere mortals, though, should just play safe and aim for the fairway. The next is a great finishing hole. A downhill par four, you can often run out of fairway if you really catch a driver. This, in turn, creates a tougher approach to the green guarded by bunkers.

An ambitious programme of course improvements over the last 10 years has led to Easter Moffat acquiring a reputation as one of the best golf courses in Lanarkshire. The signature 18th hole, played from an elevated tee to the green in front of the clubhouse, is a memorable finishing hole. Founded in 1910, and designed by James Braid. Braid the first man to win the open championship 5 times, had a prodigious talent both as a golfer and a course designer, and with a minimum of excavation work, he completed the taks in four months, and later found time to create course at Gleneagles and Carnoustie

This is a hilly course but offers a fair test of golf and unsurpassed views across the city of Glasgow. The panorama from the 6th green and 12th tees is impressive with views towards the west and the Arrochar Alps, Ben Lomond, north to the Campsie Fells.

Kirkhill is a well laid out course, it is not overly long but it is a tough challenge to hit the small and very tricky greens. If you wish to shoot well here you have to get off to a good start as the middle six can upset even the best of players. All in all a fantastic place to play golf!!
